Urgent Update: Day 2 Testing Changes

7th January 2022

  • From 4am on January 7th, passengers who qualify as fully vaccinated are no longer required to take a Lateral Flow Test before setting off for the UK.
  • From 4am on January 9th, passengers who qualify as fully vaccinated can use a Lateral Flow Test for the Day 2 Test instead of a PCR.
  • The rules for unvaccinated travellers remain unchanged. Arrivals into the UK who have not received both doses of their vaccination are required to take a Lateral Flow Test before setting off for the UK and to self-isolate for 10 Days when they arrive back in the UK, taking a Day 2 and 8 PCR test in this time. There is also the option to take a Day 5 Test to Release, to end isolation early.

Urgent Update: Day 2 Testing Changes

The health secretary announced on 4th December that, from 4am on Tuesday 7th December, travellers entering the UK will be required to take a pre-departure Covid test before boarding their plane or vessel.

Urgent Update: Day 2 Testing Changes

  • Due to a new variant of concern originating in Southern Africa being detected in Europe, the UK Government has changed the Day 2 Testing Requirements for Entry into the UK, regardless of vaccination status.
  • If you're arriving from a non-red list country, you must now take a PCR Test on or before your Day 2, even if you are fully vaccinated. You must also self-isolate until you have been confirmed as not being infected with Covid.
  • The rules for unvaccinated travellers remain unchanged. Arrivals into the UK who have not received both doses of their vaccination are required to take a Lateral Flow Test before setting off for the UK and to self-isolate for 10 Days when they arrive back in the UK, taking a Day 2 and 8 PCR test in this time. There is also the option to take a Day 5 Test to Release, to end isolation early.
  • Because of the new variant of concern, the UK Government has announced a new red list, arrivals from which will be required to self-isolate in a designated hotel and take PCR Tests on Days 2 and 8.

FAQ about New Day 2 Lateral Flow Tests

Can I Use The Same Lateral Flow Test for a Day 2 and a Fit to Fly Test? Yes, if you're only in the UK for a short time and providing the time-frame for your trip allows both tests to be valid, you can use one testing kit for both purposes. Please check on the Government website for how far in advance your destination asks for your lateral flow test to be taken.

What Should I Do if my Lateral Flow Test if Positive? If your test is positive, you should report it in the normal way and then follow the recommended protocol for the country you're in. In the UK, there is advice on the NHS website.

How Can I Fill in a Passenger Locator Form? The Passenger Locator Form can be found on the Government website. Follow this link to fill in your Passenger Locator Form.

Who Can Take a New Day 2 Lateral Flow Test? The New Day 2 Lateral Flow Test can be bought and used by travellers coming into England who are double vaccinated. You can read more about the types of vaccines that are acceptable and the rules about travelling with children and young people on the Government Website.

How Does the Process Work? Your kit contains everything you need to complete and register your test, as well as detailed instructions. You will need to take and upload several photographs at different stages of the test, so make sure you read the instructions through to the end before beginning the process.

When Will I Get my Passenger Locator Form Number? When you buy your test, you will immediately be emailed a Booking Reference Number, which is sometimes called a Passenger Locator Form Number. It is made up of 5 Letters and 7 Numbers and starts with PHSCL. Keep this number safe as you will need it when you take your test. If you are having trouble locating your number, please check your Junk Email folder, or get in touch with a member of the team.
